It is very truth story of beloved couple life .
So yes, it will happen in a big way. Because Pathan girls wish that their husbands be Hindu.
There are some ethnic Pashtuns in Kashmir valley and some are in Poonch. Some scattered communities are in Kolkata and in Assam as well.
I know one Pashtun girl (I don't want to name) who loved a Hindu boy named Sandip. They were in love and it was explicit. Girl loved Hinduism more than she loved Sandip. It was her love for Indian culture that brought her near Sandip. When their love was known to brothers of the girl, they kidnapped Sandip and took him to mosque and forcibly converted him. But no sooner Sandip was reprieved, that he started his Hindu ways. He didn't desert the girl either. One week later his mutilated body was found on the road.
Another case is very old, but pertains to one Pashtun girl (title Sarwani). She was a class-mate of my mother. She revealed to my mother that she will marry only with a Hindu, else she would commit suicide. This girl was married to one of our close relatives. She became a Hindu. This was in 1970. She participated in all Hindu festivals with zeal. Her parents finally acquiesced to the marriage. This lady was an expert in cooking and was extremely beautiful till her last days. She died in 2014.
When Dr. Nasira Sharma visited Afghanistan in 1978, she met a lot of girl students there. She noted in all the gatherings that girl students were keen to marry Hindus of India when they came to know that Dr. Nasira married to a Hindu and still unharmed. What Nasira ji noted was that Afghan girls were seen desperate to marry Hindus. Some of them even told that they would love to be the second wife of a Hindu rather than first wife of a Muslim Pashtun.
I have met this wonderful lady Nasira once in 1993 in NCERT, New Delhi. She is a Sahitya Academy Award winner.
Emotions can't be suppressed for long. Women suppression in Islam is codified. But it can't go on for long, one brutal war in the area of Pakistan-Afghanistan and things will change for better in Afghanistan- Pakistan area for women as after the war they will be in majority. The true women emancipation in the Christian world came after World War II, when scarcity of men forced women to come out of kitchen to take up men's jobs leading to their liberty for all subsequent period.
A liberated Muslim women will never like to be part of Muslim household. That's for sure.
